Correa to Twins, doesn’t feel right

After making five straight appearances in the ALCS, which includes winning a World Series in 2017, Carlos Correa decided to leave the franchise that drafted him back in 2012 for the Minnesota Twins this off-season. After reports stating that Correa had turned down a five-year $160 million deal with the Houston Astros, I was surprised to hear that the two-time All-Star decided to sign with the Twins for (only) three years and 105.3 million. With Scott Boras representing him, I believe this has alot to do with the option to opt out after only one season and then test the free-agent market again next season.

The Houston Astros have been great at rebuilding and likely wanted to plan for the future. I’m sure the Astros would have loved to have had Correa back on the five-year deal, but going through this again with Correa next season as a free agent is not something the Astros had an interest in. Nevertheless, as a fan of the game, seeing Correa sign with the Twins was disappointing to me, but due to the terms of his contract, a reunion between Correa and the Stros in 2023 is not impossible.

Washington Nationals at Cincinnati Reds
Projected Starters: Nationals: Max Scherzer vs Reds: Homer Bailey 4:10pm EST

As we approach day two of the MLB season, Washington is the first big favorite that I really feel the need to jump on.

Projected Cincinnati Reds starter Homer Bailey was 0-2 with a 25.41 ERA against the Nationals last season. The Reds lost those games 18-3 and 14-4. Nationals hitters have a career .467 earned run average against Homer Bailey. In his career Bailey is 1-5 when starting against Washington with an ERA of 8.44

The Nationals send Max Schrezer to the mound who pitched six shut out innings against the Reds last season.

My Pick: Washington Nationals (-1.5) Two Units

MLB Picks April 6

Apr 5, 2017; Minneapolis, MN, USA; Minnesota Twins outfielder Eddie Rosario (20) congratulates third baseman Miguel Sano (22) after scoring in the second inning against the Kansas City Royals at Target Field. Mandatory Credit: Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

I am going to be as transparent as possible. Wednesday was another losing day at 1-2. The win came with the Braves pulling out a 3-1 12th inning victory over the Mets.  We had the Braves at +1.5, too bad we punked out and didn’t go Braves Moneyline at +194.

The over 7.5 for the Yankees-Rays game was looking really good when the Rays took a 4-1 lead in the 2nd inning.  Unfortunately there were no more runs scored beyond the second inning, and the Yankees went 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position.

The beginning of this season has been very frustrating, however even if we were currently on a winning streak, the baseball season and sports handicapping is a marathon, not a sprint.

2017 MLB Season Results:

April 2, 2017: 0-2  (MLB Pot -$1,000)

April 3, 2017: 1-2 (MLB Pot -$835.53)

April 4, 2017: 2-2  (MLB Pot -$152.53)

April 5, 2017: 1-2  (MLB Pot -$519.23)

April 5 Recap:  Game 1- $500.00  Marlins at Nationals UNDER 9 runs

Game 2- $500.00  Yankees at Rays OVER 7.5 runs

Result: LOSS Rays 4 Yankees 1
Game 3- $500.00 Mets +1.5 Runs  (-104)
Result: WIN Braves 3 Mets 1
Total season record (4-8 MLB Pot “-$2,507.29”)

With so many early games today, below I have all of my MLB Picks listed with a very brief explanation.

MLB Picks for April 6, 2017

Kansas City Royals (MONEYLINE +108) at Minnesota Twins
(Royals: Hammel)   (Twins: Gibson) 1:10 pm EST
The Twins have won the first two games of the series and now come into the final game of this three game series as favorites. The Twins are  26-52 against American League Central opponents over the last 2 season.  I am going with two picks here, the underdog Royals (+108)  to get the win and the total of OVER 8 runs.
San Diego Padres (MONEYLINE +205) at Los Angeles Dodgers
(Padres: Weaver)   (Dodgers: McCarthy) 3:10 pm EST
With odds of +205, you can make a profit but winning only 33% of your bets.  Dodgers starter Brandon McCarthy has only made a total of 13 starts and 63 innings pitched the last two seasons.  The Dodgers are +220 favorites, but the Padres have played them tough recently. These teams have split the last 22 games against each other with 11 wins a piece. Give me the Padres +205 MONEYLINE.

MLB Free Pick: Cleveland at Texas April 4

After the first two official days on the 2017 season, we are off to a bit of rough start. However, every team and every handicapper will likely run into at least an 1-4 stretch at some point this season.  We went 1-2 yesterday, however I am not bragging about the win, which was a -304 moneyline play on the Dodgers. -304 is not the type of value I usually look for or make plays on, however yesterday it was too good to pass on. Here are the results so far this season:

 April 2, 2017: 0-2  (MLB Pot -$1,000)

April 3, 2017: 1-2 (MLB Pot -$-835.53)

Game 1- $500.00 Atlanta Braves moneyline (+178.0)

Result: LOSS  Mets 6 Braves 0

Game 2- $500.00  Los Angeles Dodgers moneyline (-304.0)

Result: WIN  Dodgers 14 Padres 3

Game 3- $500.00 Texas Rangers moneyline (+109.0)

Result: LOSS  Indians 8 Rangers 5

Total season record (1-4  MLB Pot -$1,835.53)

Free picks for April 4, 2017

Cleveland Indians at Texas Rangers
(Indians: Carrasco)  (Rangers: Perez) 8:05 pm EST

We took the Rangers yesterday, who blew a 5-1 to Cleveland lead and lost 8-5. Today as a +146 underdog we are taking the Rangers Moneyline again and OVER 9 runs.

CCIndians starter Carlos Carrasco is coming back from injury and posted a 10.80 ERA with his opponents hitting .397 BA against him this spring.  I expect Carrasco to eventually get back into form from last season, but as a  -146 favorite, I think he is a big risk tonight.

Rangers starter Martin Perez was 8-3 with a 3.24 ERA at home last season. But Perez did allow six earned runs in 5 2/3 innings at home to Cleveland last year.

Going with the +146 value for the Rangers and expecting a high scoring game.

Monday May 2 MLB Picks

Monday May 2 Picks

Texas Rangers @ Toronto Blue Jays (Rangers Moneyline +122)

Rangers: Griffin (3-0, 2.52) Blue Jays: Dickey (1-3, 6.75)

Plus +122 odds is a good reason to take the Rangers here. A $100 wager on Texas will win you $122, while you would need to lay down $141 on Toronto in order to win $100. I would not take the Blue Jays here. RA Dickey has struggled this season, while Rangers starting pitcher A.J Griffin has pitched very well. Great opportunity to go with the Rangers to win here as an underdog.

Minnesota Twins @ Houston Astros (Astros Moneyline -180)

Twins: Berrios (0-1, 11.25) Astros: Keuchel (2-3, 4.41)

The Astros and Twins come into this game with the two worst records in the American League.  This losing trend should come to an end for the Astros and their ace Dallas Keuchel soon. I expect Houston to get back on track, at least in this game. The play is Houston to win.

Washington Nationals @ Kansas City Royals (Washington Moneyline +105)

Nationals: Gonzalez (1-1, 1.42) Royals: Volquez (3-1, 3.34)

Gio Gonzalez had a great month for the Nationals and the Royals offense has been struggling. Very even match-up, but I like Washington in the underdog role here.

Colorado Rockies @ San Diego Padres (Over 7.5 -105)

Rockies: Gray (0-0 11.42) Padres: Shields (0-4, 3.34)

091615-MLB-Colorado-Rockies-third-baseman-Nolan-Arenado-PI-SW.vresize.1200.675.high.59
Nolan Arenado has had no problem hitting James Shields in his career (12 for 23) 4 HR 6 RBI

Rockies starter Jon Gray is capable of giving up seven runs on his own, while I do not necessarily believe he will, Gray does come in with a 6.57 ERA in 11 career starts.  The Rockies are scoring 5.5 runs a game, and some of their key hitters have had good success against James Shields.  Nolan Arenado will lead the way, he comes into the game hitting .522 with 4 HRs in his career against Shields. Look for at least 8 runs to be scored in this game. Over 7.5

Recapping last week MLB April 24-May 1 total: **13 wins 7 losses**

April 30 (1 win 2 losses)

Detroit Tigers @ Minnesota Twins (Tigers Moneyline-135) WON

Cincinnati Reds @ Pittsburgh Pirates (Over 8 Runs -110) LOST

Kansas City Royals @ Seattle Marines (Royals Moneyline -110) LOST

May 1- No MLB picks
