Here are the leading contenders for the American League Pennant, along with the odds according to BetMGM.

Toronto Blue Jays +450
Last season Toronto won 91 games but ended up being the team with the best record to not qualify for the postseason. Even though the Blue Jays lost some key players from last year’s squad, including Marcus Semien, Randal Grichuk, and Robbie Ray, the roster still has plenty of offensive firepower, led by triple crown threat Vladimir Guerrero. They also upgraded their bullpen, which was a weakness last season. Only time will tell if Toronto is worthy of being the AL favorite.

Houston Astros +475
The Astros are favored to win the American League West and will be in contention again for the AL crown. Houston lost Carlos Correa and Zack Greinke in free agency, but this team is still loaded. Houston led all of MLB in runs scored last season and returns seven of their top eight position players. Houston also re-signed Justin Verlander, who was impressive in Spring Training after missing the entire 2021 season.

New York Yankees +550
Every season is World Series or bust for the Yankees, and with the current roster built to win now, the trend of five straight playoff appearances should continue. The lineup is loaded, and the Bronx Bombers will head into the opening day with 16 pitchers, led by their ace Gerrit Cole.

Chicago White Sox +550
After losing their opening playoff series in consective years, the White Sox are favored to repeat as AL Central Division Champions, but with the current roster, the expectations are to win contend for the World Series crown. The White Sox are probably the most balanced amongst all the contenders. Chicago finished second in the AL in ERA last season.

Although they lost Carlos Rodon in free agency, with a rotation led by Dylan Cease, Lance Lynn, and Lucas Giolito, the White Sox will be a tough matchup for any team in the AL playoffs. Chicago’s offensive depth also rivals any team in the league,

Tampa Bay Rays +650
Regardless of what the roster looks like on paper, the Rays always find a way to contend. The Rays won 100 games during the regular season in 2021, and, with their young core still intact, Tampa Bay is a great value bet in what should be a competitive AL race.

Saturday May 12 MLB Two Free Picks

A tough 0-3 yesterday makes this week interesting. This week we have had a five game losing streak, followed by a five game winning streak, followed by a current three game losing streak. Despite the 5-8 week so far in MLB, on the season our record is 45-38 up 11 Units.

I am making five picks today, with two free right here.

 Washington Nationals (-168.0) at
 Arizona Diamondbacks (+168.0) over +8.0

Game time: Saturday 5/12, 4:05 PM

Stephen Strasburg is 4-3 in 10 career starts against Arizona with a 3.59 earned run average. The OVER is 7-3 in Strasburg those starts against the Diamondbacks.

Strasburg is 0-1 against Arizona this season. He allowed five earned runs over 6 1/3 innings against the Diamondbacks on April 27.

Arizona will be starting Troy Scribner who had a 5.68 earned run average in five Pacific Coast League AAA starts this season.

MY PICK: OVER 8.0 RUNS TWO UNITS

 Seattle Mariners (-136.0) at
 Detroit Tigers (+136.0) over +9.0

Game time: Saturday 5/12, 4:10 PM GAME 1 of double header

While not great in his career, Tigers start Matthew Boyd has always been better at home and a better day time pitcher. This season Boyd is 1-1 with 1.47 ERA and 0.93 WHIP at home.

Both the Tigers and Mariners have hit left handed pitching well this season. I give the edge to the Tigers in Game 1

MY PICK: Detroit Tigers moneyline (+133.0) TWO UNITS

MLB FREE PICKS- TUESDAY APRIL 17

Monday was a tough day in MLB but a great day in the NBA!

We went 2-0 in our NBA picks with the Warriors -9.5 and the OVER 215.5 in the 76ers-Heat game.  However in baseball we were 0-2.

We took a chance with the underdog Texas Rangers who lost 8-4. Then in what looked to be a win, we saw the New York Mets head into the 8th inning with a 6-1 lead, only to allow six runs in that inning on their way to an 8-6 loss to the Washington Nationals. This drops our record to 11-10 on the season in Major League Baseball.

The show goes on today.  Due to some postponed games and late lines, there is a good chance that we will be playing at least one more game later today.

Miami Marlins at New York Yankees 6:35pm EST

Projected Starters: Marlin Garcia (0-0, 1.13) at Yankees:  Tanka (2-1, 5.19 ERA

50/50 would I pick the Marlins? No. But with these odds do I think they have a better chance then the value indicates? Absolutely.

Jarlin Garcia comes in with a 1.13 ERA average on this season. This includes pitching six innings of no hit baseball against the Mets and six innings of one hit ball against the Cubs.

Make sure to list Jarlin Garcia as the starting pitcher for the Marlins when making this pick. There is positive value here even if the Marlins lose by a run.

My Picks (2 parts):

Part 1: Miami Marlins moneyline (+267.0) One Unit

Part 2: Miami Marlins +1,5 (+133) One Unit

St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs 7:05 pm EST

Projected Starters: Cardinals: Wainwright (0-0, 5.06  at Cubs:  Chatwood (0-2, 4.91 ERA)

Cubs projected started Tyler Chatwood is 0-2 with a 7.36 ERA in four career games against the Cardinals.

Adam Wainwright is 10-2 with 3.79 career ERA at Wrigley Field. Value is on the Cardinals

My Pick: St. Louis Cardinals moneyline (+119.0) Two Units

American League Wildcard Game Pick: Oct. 3, 2017 (Twins at Yankees)

Minnesota Twins (85-77) at New York Yankees (91-71) 8pm EST

Twins: Santana (16-8, 3.28) Yankees: Severino (14-6, 2.98)

Favorite: Yankees -234

The MLB postseason kicks off tonight, when baseball’s most famous team, the New York Yankees, face the team with biggest turnaround for a post season run in major league history, the Minnesota Twins.

After finishing the 2016 season with a 59-103 record, the Twins have become the first team in major league baseball history to make the playoffs following a 100 loss season the year before.

The Yankees won the season series over the Twins 4-2. The Yankees swept the September three game series in New York, and in July the Twins took two out of three games from the Yankees in Minnesota.

Twins scheduled starter Ervin Santana allowed two earned runs over 5 2/3 innings at Yankee stadium on Sept. 18 in a 2-1 loss.  Santana will be making his third career post season start, and his ninth career post season appearance, but his first since 2009.  Santana is 0-5 with a 6.43 ERA in six career starts at Yankee Stadium.

Yankees scheduled starter Luis Severino allowed three earned runs in only three innings against the Twins on Sept. 20 in New York.

The Yankees are huge favorites here at -225, however in a one game winner take all situation anything can happen. Luis Severino has had a great season but is only 23 years old and will be making his first career post-season appearance.

Right now there is underdog value +110 on the Twins even if the lose by a run.  I expect the Twins to show some fight and even possibly pull off the upset. I am placing my bet for the Twins to keep this game with-in one run.

Twins +1.5 (+112)

Saturday May 7 MLB Picks

Here are my six picks for Saturday May 7

Boston Red Sox @ New York Yankees (Red Sox Moneyline -122)

Red Sox (Price, 4-0, 6.14)   Yankees (Eovaldi, 1-2, 5.46)

For Price and Eovaldi, this is a rematch from a 8-7 Red Sox win on May 1. Despite the early season struggles of David Price, he has been better on the road (2.57 ERA) then at home (8.34 ERA). Collectively, Red Sox hitters have seen success against Nathan Eovaldi. David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia and Hanley Ramirez are a combined 15 for 33 (.454 BA) in their careers against Eovaldi. Anything goes in this rivalry, but Price is still the better starting pitcher in this match-up. Boston also leads all of MLB in batting average, while the Yankees rank 27th.  With both bullpens being about even, I like the Red Sox to win here.

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Toronto Blue Jays (Dodgers Moneyline -175)

Dodgers (Kershaw, 3-1, 1.96) Blue Jays: Dickey (1-3, 5.73)

I’m betting on Clayton Kershaw over R.A. Dickey.  Dickey is coming off of his best start of the season, where he allowed one earned run in 6 1/3 innings.  The Blue Jays however, still lost that game and have lost five out of the six games that Dickey has started. There is a lot of juice here, but I like the  Dodgers as the money line pick to win.

Minnesota Twins @ Chicago White Sox (White Sox Moneyline -190)

Twins (Santana 0-1, 3.15) White Sox (Sale 6-0, 1.66)

Chris Sale has been great this season. The White Sox come in with the best record in the American League, while the Twins sit at the bottom. I took the White Sox last night and they won 10-4. I am taking the White Sox to win again.

Arizona Diamondbacks @ Atlanta Braves (Over 7.5 Runs, -115)

Diamondbacks (Miller  0-3, 8.49) Braves (Teheran 0-3, 3.72)

Overs are 16-9-3 for the Braves this season. Overs are 16-14-1 for the Diamondbacks.  Juilo Teheran has been very sharp in his last three starts but the Atlanta bullpen is shaky. Diamondback starter Shelby Miller is off to a terrible start.  Over 7.5 runs scored is not too much to ask for here.

Colorado Rockies @ San Francisco Giants  (Two picks: Giants Moneyline -165 and Over 7.5 Runs -105)

13 of the Giants last 15 games have gone over. With Jon Gray starting for the Rockies, 7.5 is a low number here. I am picking this game to go over 7.5 runs scored. I am also picking the Giants to win.
