APRIL 14 FREE MLB PICK

Friday the 13th lived up to the name. After consistently making no more than two plays a day, we made three picks yesterday and went 1-2. This drops our record to 10-8 on the season up 1.44 units.  We are scaling back to just one pick for tonight for three units.

Pittsburgh Pirates at Miami Marlins 7:10 pm EST

Projected Starters: Pirates: Taillon (2-0, 1.26) at Marlins: Richard (0-1, 8.64 ERA)

More juice then we have laid yet this season, , but I don’t expect the Pirates to lose again to the Marlins with Jameson Taillon on the mound.

Cincinnati Reds at Pittsburgh Pirates 7:05pm EST

Projected Starters: Reds: Homer Bailey vs Pirates: Steven Brault 

Reds starter Homer Bailey is 6-2 all time when pitching at PNC Park with an 2.48 earned run average there. Bailey was impressive in the season opener against a Washington Nationals team that has owned him in the past. In that game Bailey went six innings and allowed only one run, on the way to a 2-0 defeat.

The Reds opened the season being swept by the Nationals at home, then they came back to beat the Cubs 1-0 in the only game of that series. The second game of the series was postponed Tuesday, and then the Reds were off yesterday, so Cincinnati is coming into this game with a rare two days off.

The Pittsburgh Pirates swept the Detroit Tigers to open their season, in a weird series were two games were originally postponed, which forced one double header. The Pirates won the season opener of that series 13-10 with the help of a very controversial call. After the 3-0 start, the Pirates split a two game series with the Twins.

Pirates projected starter, Steven Brault picked up the win in relief of the 13-10 victory over the Tigers. Brault has only made 11 career starts. He is 2-3 with a career earned run average of 4.56 and WHIP of 1.69.

With the +124 value on the Reds, you need to win just 46% of games to come ahead. With the Pirates currently -135 favorites  you would have to win 57% of your bets to profit.

These are division rivals who I feel are pretty even. The Reds are only 1-3 right now, while the Pirates are 4-1. However, the Reds have had a more difficult schedule so far. These teams will go back and forth this season and tonight the value is on the Reds.

MARCH 30 MLB FREE PICK

Washington Nationals at Cincinnati Reds
Projected Starters: Nationals: Max Scherzer vs Reds: Homer Bailey 4:10pm EST

As we approach day two of the MLB season, Washington is the first big favorite that I really feel the need to jump on.

Projected Cincinnati Reds starter Homer Bailey was 0-2 with a 25.41 ERA against the Nationals last season. The Reds lost those games 18-3 and 14-4. Nationals hitters have a career .467 earned run average against Homer Bailey. In his career Bailey is 1-5 when starting against Washington with an ERA of 8.44

The Nationals send Max Schrezer to the mound who pitched six shut out innings against the Reds last season.

Northern Illinois Huskies at Bowling Green Falcons (Free Pick)

The over/under started at 49 points and has now jumped to 55.5 on some sportsbooks.

The under is 5-1 in Northern Illinois games this season. The average NIU game this season has gone under by an average of more than eight points below the total, and this is even if you include the one game that went over, a 34-28 loss at San Diego State which went 16 points over the Vegas total line.

The UNDER is 2-0 in both of NIU conference games this season with the total ending at 27 points in both games.

The UNDER is 4-2-1 in Bowling Green games this season, however the two overs did come in the last two weeks, both in conference games.

Northern Illinois ranks #1 in the MAC in scoring defense allowing only. 16.7 points per game. Northern Illinois also ranks #1 in the conference in total defense and rushing defense.

Bowling Green ranks dead last (12th) in the conference in total defense and scoring defense (36.3 points per game). However offensively the Falcons only average 21 points a game (10th in MAC).

    Recapping Picks from April 16 (2-1)

Colorado Rockies 4 at San Francisco Giants 3  (WIN +123)

The Giants continued to punish bettors have taken them this season, while the Rockies continue to reward as underdogs.

Washington Nationals 6 Philadelphia Phillies 4  (LOSS UNDER 8)

It looked good when the game went into the 8th inning with the Nats leading 3-1. It wasn’t until Bryce Harper’s two out three-run homerun in the bottom of the 9th that sunk our ship.

Chicago White Sox 3 Minnesota Twins 1  (WON UNDER 9)

The 9 runs which jumped up to 9.5 runs before game time was way too high for anyone paying attention to these teams so far.

April 18 Quick Picks:

Detroit Tigers (+114.0) at Tampa Bay Rays (-114.0)  @ 7:10 PM EST 

 We like the Tigers here with underdog value. Detroit is 3-1 as an underdog this season and starter Micheal Fulmer only allowed one run over 14 total innings against the Rays last season with 21 strikeouts

The Tigers are 5-2 against the Rays in the last seven games at Tampa.

Miguel Cabrera is questionable, but I still like the Tigers Moneyline here.

Milwaukee Brewers (+161.0) at Chicago Cubs (-161.0) @8:05 PM EST

The Chicago Cubs are struggling and have dropped five out of their last six games overall and have been favored in every game this season.

The Brewers Brewers have won six out of last seven games overall and in five out of those six wins they were the underdog.

Both starting pitchers are off to good starts but Cubs started Brett Anderson is still a huge question mark to take the Cubs with -161 juice and Cubs bullpen is 1-4 with a 4.10 ERA so far.

I am taking the Brewers Moneyline.

Miami Marlins (-102.0) at Seattle Mariners (+102.0) @ 10:10 PM

Marlins starter Yovani Gallardo is 5-1 with a 1.90 ERA in eight starts against the Marlins in his career.

The Marlins are only 6-20 in last 26 road interleague games on the road.

The Mariners have won  eight of its last 11 interleague games at home.

MLB Free Pick: Cleveland at Texas April 4

After the first two official days on the 2017 season, we are off to a bit of rough start. However, every team and every handicapper will likely run into at least an 1-4 stretch at some point this season.  We went 1-2 yesterday, however I am not bragging about the win, which was a -304 moneyline play on the Dodgers. -304 is not the type of value I usually look for or make plays on, however yesterday it was too good to pass on. Here are the results so far this season:

Free picks for April 4, 2017

Cleveland Indians at Texas Rangers

We took the Rangers yesterday, who blew a 5-1 to Cleveland lead and lost 8-5. Today as a +146 underdog we are taking the Rangers Moneyline again and OVER 9 runs.

CCIndians starter Carlos Carrasco is coming back from injury and posted a 10.80 ERA with his opponents hitting .397 BA against him this spring.  I expect Carrasco to eventually get back into form from last season, but as a  -146 favorite, I think he is a big risk tonight.

Rangers starter Martin Perez was 8-3 with a 3.24 ERA at home last season. But Perez did allow six earned runs in 5 2/3 innings at home to Cleveland last year.

Going with the +146 value for the Rangers and expecting a high scoring game.
